Courses of Action

Mujeres Felices Foundation and BIBIR AFRICA’s FGM Project has two major courses of action:

  • Awareness Campaigns and prevention of the practice of Female Genital Mutilation.

  • Surgeries to resolve the health problems and pain that arise as a result of FGM.

The most frequent consequences of FGM

  • Immediate complications include pain, bleeding, tetanus, sepsis, urine retention, open sores, and lesions on the stitches.

  • Longer term consequences include infections, cysts, fistulas, low libido, complications in childbirth, sterility, depression, and anxiety.

FGM Project

Type 1: Clitoridectomy: Total or partial removal of the clitoris and/or the foreskin

Type 2: Excision: Total or partial removal of the clitoris and the labia menora.

Type 3: Infibulation: Narrowing of the vaginal opening to create a seal by cutting and the relocation of the labia menora or majora, which usually only leaves a small opening for urination and menstruation.

6,000 girls a day are victims of FGM

FGM is practiced in 28 countries in Africa, the Middle East, and Southeast Asia

And also on immigrant girls in Europe and North America

CAF Project

Centre d'Attention a la Femme

The opening of the first Women’s House in Burkina Faso, Africa, is our most exciting project in support of African women.

In this first CAF - Centre d’Atention a la Femme (Women’s Services Center), the women will receive medical attention and training workshops about family planning, AIDS prevention, literacy, child nutrition, and income-generating activities.

The Women’s House is a project in collaboration with the local organization BIBIR AFRICA, which has extensive experience in the fight against hunger and protection of the infant population, and is now especially focused in the fight against FGM - Female Genital Mutilation, the defense of women’s rights, and training courses.
